A tragic incident in Islamabad has claimed the life of a three-year-old child after he fell into an open sewer pit in the Sumbal area, according to officials from the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration.
An ICT spokesperson said the incident took place in an illegally developed settlement built on encroached land. The area reportedly had an uncovered pit dug for sewerage work, which had been left exposed without any safety barriers or warning signs.
Authorities confirmed that the child accidentally fell into the open sewer pit and died on the spot. Following the incident, the administration launched legal proceedings against those responsible for digging the pit and failing to implement basic safety measures.
Officials said the incident has once again highlighted serious safety risks associated with illegal housing developments, where construction often takes place without regulatory oversight. The administration has assured that strict action will be taken against all individuals found negligent in the matter.
The ICT administration also urged residents to report hazardous construction sites and uncovered sewerage pits to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
