Three Pakistan Super League franchises have reportedly asked the league’s management to consider introducing a player auction system for the upcoming PSL 11, instead of continuing with the traditional draft format.
Sources say Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, and Quetta Gladiators are in favor of shifting to an auction model and have already conveyed their stance to the Pakistan Super League administration as preparations for the next season begin.
According to insiders, the franchises have also raised several operational concerns while discussions around PSL 11 planning move forward. One of the major points highlighted is the need for a clear policy on direct signings, including how the process will work and how many players teams will be allowed to sign outside the main selection system.
The franchises have further requested clarity on player categorization, asking who will finalize the categories and whether teams will be consulted before they are officially locked. They believe early involvement would make the process more transparent and fair for all stakeholders.
Discussions are now ongoing within franchise circles on whether the league should stick with the existing draft system or transition to an auction-based model. Supporters of the auction argue that the draft format tends to favor teams with early picks, allowing them to secure top talent more easily.
They also believe that an auction would create a more competitive environment, reducing situations where targeted players are picked by rival teams simply due to draft order advantages.
However, not all franchises agree on the proposal. Sources indicate that Lahore Qalandars prefer retaining the current draft system, while Peshawar Zalmi have yet to officially share their position on the matter.
Franchises are still awaiting a formal response from PSL management, but so far, no official decision has been communicated.
