Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is weighing the option of temporarily suspending gas supply to industrial consumers on Saturday as part of efforts to ease pressure on domestic users during peak winter demand.
Officials said gas availability in Karachi has improved slightly after the restoration of 25 to 30 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) from gas wells. However, household consumers in several areas have continued to experience shortages over the past few days, prompting authorities to consider short-term adjustments.
According to SSGC officials, gas consumption rises sharply in winter due to increased use for heating, placing extra strain on the supply network. To manage this seasonal surge, diverting supply from industrial sectors is being reviewed as a possible relief measure for homes.
Earlier this month, the federal government announced that gas tariffs would remain unchanged for the next six months, providing some stability for consumers. Meanwhile, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) recently increased LPG prices, adding further pressure on household energy costs.
SSGC has not yet issued a final decision, but officials said the situation is being closely monitored and any action will be taken to ensure maximum relief for domestic users
