The Punjab Teachers’ Union has called for an extension of the winter holidays for primary school students, requesting an additional 10 days off due to severe cold weather conditions.

The union emphasized that the move is necessary to protect children’s health, noting that extreme cold increases the risk of illnesses such as pneumonia among young students. General Secretary Rana Liaquat Ali urged the government to prioritize students’ well-being and make a timely decision to avoid both health hazards and disruptions to the academic calendar.

Officials said the request comes in light of the current harsh winter conditions across Punjab, and the union stressed that extending holidays would provide children with a safer environment while maintaining the quality of education.
