More than 1,000 school heads in Punjab, appointed after passing a provincial merit-based test, are still waiting to receive their charge allowance, despite performing their official duties for several months.
According to details, 1,084 school heads who qualified through the competitive process have not been paid their entitled monthly charge allowance of Rs 1,200. Officials said that four months have passed since their appointments, but the payments have yet to be released.
In Lahore, the issue has affected 135 school heads appointed on merit. In addition to the charge allowance, their leave and conveyance allowances have also reportedly been withheld, adding to their concerns.
School principals have raised complaints, stating that the Accountant General (AG) Office does not recognize them as official heads for the purpose of allowances, despite their formal appointments and ongoing responsibilities.
The affected school heads have urged Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to take notice of the matter and intervene to ensure the release of pending payments.
They have emphasized that delays in allowances are causing financial hardship and have called for immediate action to resolve the issue and acknowledge their status officially.
