The Punjab Transport Department has announced a reduction in intercity bus fares from Lahore to multiple cities across the province and beyond, following a recent drop in fuel prices by the federal government.

According to officials, the revised fares aim to provide relief to commuters and make public transport more affordable amid rising living costs. Under the new notification, passengers can expect fare reductions ranging from Rs. 60 to Rs. 200, depending on the route.

As per the updated fare structure, the ticket price for travel from Lahore to Islamabad has been reduced from Rs. 1,910 to Rs. 1,850, while fares for Murree now stand at Rs. 2,290, down from Rs. 2,370. Similarly, the cost of traveling to Peshawar has been lowered to Rs. 2,530, compared to the previous Rs. 2,610.

Passengers heading to Mansehra will now pay Rs. 2,420 instead of Rs. 2,500, while fares to Abbottabad have been cut to Rs. 2,240. The fare from Lahore to Faisalabad has been reduced from Rs. 1,010 to Rs. 980, and travel to Sadiqabad now costs Rs. 2,430.

Long-distance travelers will also benefit, as fares from Lahore to Karachi have been reduced by Rs. 180, bringing the price down to Rs. 5,620. Meanwhile, fares to Sukkur and Multan have been revised to Rs. 3,400 and Rs. 1,650, respectively.

Transport Department officials stated that the decision was taken to ease the financial burden on the public and encourage the use of public transport. The fare reduction comes after the Ministry of Finance announced a decrease in petroleum prices at the start of the new year.

According to the official notification, petrol prices were reduced by Rs. 10.28 per litre, while high-speed diesel prices dropped by Rs. 8.57 per litre, prompting provincial authorities to pass on the benefit to commuters.
