The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has rejected rumors claiming that internet services across the country would face disruption or slowdowns on January 15, assuring users that nationwide connectivity remains stable.
In an official clarification, PTA officials stated that claims circulating on social media about a countrywide internet outage are completely unfounded. The authority confirmed that no interruptions have been reported and that internet services across Pakistan are operating normally.
PTA further explained that major upstream service providers, including Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and Transworld, are fully functional, with no signs of network degradation or reduced performance.
The clarification follows concerns raised after internet service provider Nayatel informed its customers about scheduled maintenance work on one of Pakistan’s submarine cables on January 15, 2026, around 2:00 PM. According to the email, the maintenance activity could last up to eight hours and may result in temporary internet slowness. However, the message did not specify which submarine cable would be affected.
Addressing these concerns, PTA emphasized that routine maintenance on submarine cables is a standard technical process and does not usually lead to widespread internet disruption. Officials reassured consumers that such activities are carefully managed to minimize any potential impact on users.
The authority reiterated that Pakistan’s internet infrastructure remains stable and that citizens should not rely on unverified information circulating online. PTA urged users to follow official sources for accurate updates and assured them of smooth and uninterrupted internet connectivity across the country.
