Pakistan and UAE Strengthen Ties: PM Shehbaz Sharif Meets UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed

In a major diplomatic development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing its strategic and economic partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during a high-level meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Rahim Yar Khan. The discussions highlighted the two nations’ shared vision for stronger bilateral cooperation.

This meeting builds on President Al Nahyan’s first official visit to Pakistan last Friday, during which both leaders engaged in substantive talks aimed at deepening historical and fraternal ties. The Prime Minister, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and other senior officials, held discussions at the Sheikh Zayed Palace.

PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of significantly boosting bilateral trade, calling for a “quantum jump” to reach desired economic levels. Both leaders explored opportunities to collaborate in key sectors, including information technology, energy, minerals, and defense, with the goal of creating mutually beneficial outcomes.

Expressing admiration for UAE’s rapid progress under Sheikh Mohamed’s visionary leadership, PM Shehbaz extended gratitude for the Emirati president’s support and commitment to strengthening ties. He also recognized the UAE for hosting 2.1 million Pakistanis, whose contributions have been vital in reinforcing the countries’ close relationship.

Pakistan and the UAE enjoy strong diplomatic, economic, and cultural connections, strengthened by a large expatriate community and shared historical bonds. The UAE remains one of Pakistan’s major trading partners and a key source of remittances, while both nations continue to collaborate on defense, energy, and investment projects.

Earlier this year, multiple memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed between Pakistan and the UAE to further strengthen cultural ties, streamline consular affairs, and establish the UAE-Pakistan Joint Business Council. These agreements underscore the ongoing commitment of both countries to expand cooperation across diverse sectors.
