Construction work has officially begun on Lahore’s first floating restaurant, marking a major milestone in the city’s efforts to expand recreational and tourism facilities. The project is being developed along the historic Lahore Canal and is expected to become a new attraction for both residents and visitors.

According to officials, the floating restaurant project is scheduled to be completed by June of the current financial year. To support the construction, authorities are increasing the canal’s depth from 7 feet to 13 feet, while its width is being expanded to 30 feet to ensure safe and smooth operations.

The construction work is being carried out by HRD, with NESPAK appointed as the project’s consultant. The Irrigation Department is also overseeing technical and structural aspects to ensure compliance with safety and engineering standards.

Officials from the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) revealed that the project includes a three-storey, modern floating restaurant, designed to enhance the canal’s surroundings and provide a unique dining experience in the city.

Once completed, the floating restaurant will be able to host around 80 guests at a time and aims to combine premium dining with tourism and leisure activities.

PHA Managing Director Raja Mansoor Ahmed said the project will significantly improve Lahore’s visual appeal and strengthen its tourism profile. He added that the estimated cost of the project is approximately Rs. 4.9 billion, reflecting its large scale and modern design.
