A new case of online fraud has surfaced in Islamabad, where a resident lost Rs 92,500 after falling victim to a scam involving a fake Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) e-challan.
The incident was reported from the Sehala area of the federal capital. According to details, the victim received a phone call from an individual posing as a representative of the PSCA. The caller falsely claimed that a traffic e-challan had been issued against the victim and demanded an immediate fine of Rs 500.
To pressure the victim, the caller created a sense of urgency and insisted that the payment be made without delay or verification. The situation became more alarming when it was revealed that the fraudster possessed extensive personal and financial information about the victim.
Sources said the caller had access to the victim’s CNIC number, mobile numbers, details of multiple bank accounts, and even knew which account held the highest balance, reportedly running into millions of rupees. The fraudster repeatedly attempted to force the victim to make the payment from that particular account.
Acting cautiously, the victim chose to pay the Rs 500 fine through his EasyPaisa account, which had a balance of around Rs 92,000. Moments after the transaction, the fraudster transferred the entire balance online, emptying the account instantly.
Although the victim avoided a much larger financial loss, he still suffered a hit of Rs 92,500. The incident highlights growing concerns over cybercrime and how scammers are increasingly gaining access to sensitive personal and banking data.
Authorities have advised citizens to remain vigilant and warned against sharing CNIC numbers, bank details, OTPs, or verification codes over phone calls. Officials stress that failure to exercise caution can result in serious financial losses.
